Three 6 Mafia & Bone Thugs-n-Harmony Will Face Off in Epic 'Verzuz' Battle

Three 6 Mafia and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony will face off live from Los Angeles.

Last April, DJ Paul and Krayzie Bone announced that a Three 6 Mafia and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony battle was going down on Instagram. The battle, which was not going to be part of Verzuz, was called off, with Paul later saying Verzuz — which is owned by Swizz Beatz and Timbaland — stepped in.

Well it looks like that battle is finally going to happen. And it's going to be much bigger than Instagram Live. On Friday evening (November 13th), Verzuz announced that Bone Thugs-N-Harmony will face off against Three 6 Mafia live from Los Angeles on December 2nd. This will be the first time Verzuz touches the West Coast since the show transitioned to a live music setting (No venue has been announced.)

This is an interesting battle when you consider the long history the two legendary groups have. Back in the '90s, Bone Thugs and Three 6 were engaged in a tense beef. During a 2015 interview, DJ Paul broke down the tension:

“It wasn’t a real beef. It was more of a misunderstanding because we was rapping about triple six, devil shit, and tongue twisting over slow beats. We had been doing that since 1989 and then all of a sudden when Bone came out — I think it was 1993… We didn’t know theFaces Of Death album because it was their underground stuff. Just like they probably didn’t know our underground stuff. When they came out with “Thuggish Ruggish Bone” and all of that stuff and we hear somebody kind of on our same style: Faces Of Death, redrum, muder, 6-6-6, tongue twisting. We were like, ‘Damn these dudes done stole our style!’

That’s why we got mad about it. We ran into each other a couple of times and there was a push or something. But there was never no fight or nothing like that.”

Three 6 Mafia would go on to diss Bone Thugs on "Live By Yo Rep (B.O.N.E. Dis)," a song from their classic debut, Mystic Stylez. While Bone Thugs would send subliminals on The Notorious B.I.G.'s "Notorious Thugs." However, after that early tension, the two groups would squash their beef — doing a couple of collabos together.

This will be the first Verzuz matchup since KRS-One and Big Daddy Kane faced off in Brooklyn back in October.
