Houston, Texas’ own soul and R&B group, The Suffers, continue their rise as a melodious force to be reckoned with on their newest single, “Do Whatever”.

Mixing and blending sounds and cultures is what makes music great in American culture, right? Save your appropriation talk for the Pat Boone and Vanilla Ice’s of the world. If you’re familiar with any good sound, much like a good meal, it takes different seasoning and textures to put that stomach on full and give the -itis something to talk about. Such is the case with Houston, Texas’ own The Suffers.

This Gulf Coast band, which formed in 2011 thanks to Adam Castaneda and Pat Kelly, represent the different musical styles that flow in and around H-Town. From players such as Kam Franklin (lead vocals), Kevin Bernier (guitar), Jon Durbin (trumpet), Michael Razo (trombone), Jose Luna (percussion) and Nick Zamora (drums).

Originally envisioned as a reggaejam band, The Suffers refashioned themselves and we’re more the thankful because of it as “Do Whatever” manages to give us all the feels for the impending blast of warm weather goodness. Filled with the sunshine-y ray vocals, “Do Whatever” puts a smile on one’s face, while handing them a vodka-filled lemonade punch that will have you grooving like you’re in New Orleans on a perfect Friday evening.

For those not yet in the know, The Suffers have gone from local heartthrobs to national sensations. With appearances amongst the likes of Bun B (Premium Goods 10th Anniversary party), David Letterman (Late Show with David Letterman), NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series and Jimmy Kimmel (Jimmy Kimmel Live) — The Suffers aren’t suffering as much as you think. In fact, if you listen very closely you might here one of their songs playing on an episode USA’s breakout drama, Mr. Robot. Either way, we’re hoping that you get on board with what The Suffers are dishing out, press play on “Do Whatever,” and cop some tickets to their upcoming tour, which you can see dates below:
