The Notorious B.I.G.’s Brooklyn Apartment Hits The Market for Nearly $2 Million

Take a look inside of the Fort Greene apartment where The Notorious B.I.G. lived while recording his classic debut, Ready to Die.

Yet another former residence of The Notorious B.I.G. is up for sale. But it’ll take roughly $2 million to call it your own.

A listing for the two-bed, two-bath Fort Greene duplex on the ground floor of 159 Carlton Ave. makes it clear just how quickly the late Brooklyn rapper was able to upgrade from the”one-room shack” of his childhood in nearby Clinton Hill (that three-bedroom dwelling on St. James and Fulton was rented for $3,900 per month in 2019.) According to The New York Post, The Notorious B.I.G. lived in the Carlton Ave. apartment with then-wife Faith Evans and her daughter Chyna Tahjere Griffin while recording and releasing his classic debut album, Ready to Die, in 1994.

The previous owner of the apartment is famed costume designer, Caroline Duncan (When They See Us, The Affair, and more,) who purchased the space in 2011 and provided a gut renovation of the space. Located just blocks from the street that now bears his name and in a neighborhood with no shortage of Biggie murals and homages, the current asking price for the apartment is $1.7 million.

And while Biggie’s association with both of the aforementioned haunts surely factors into their current price tags, it wasn’t too long ago that a Bed-Stuy landlord claimed a revered mural of the late rapper on his building at Quincy St. and Bedford Ave was preventing him from hiking the rent on his tenants. A petition to keep the mural in place quickly racked up thousands of signatures. Four years later, that painting is (thankfully) still perfectly intact.
