T-Pain is Dropping an Album of Covers

T-Pain is readying non-autotune album, On Top of the Covers, where he'll cover music from Frank Sinatra, Sam Smith, Chris Stapleton and more.

T-Pain is turning up his cover game. On Wednesday (February 15), the R&B crooner announced his upcoming album On Top of the Covers, which will feature non-autotune renditions of music from Sam Cooke (“A Change Is Gonna Come,”) Journey (“Don’t Stop Believin’,”) Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show ("Sharing The Night Together,”) Sam Smith (“Stay With Me,") Chris Stapleton (“Tennessee Whiskey,”) Frank Sinatra (“That’s Life”) and more.

The album comes four years after T-Pain's sixth studio album, 1Up, which featured longtime collaborator Lil Wayne, Russ, O.T. Genasis and more. While he's continued recording music over the years, T-Pain has taken over Twitch with gaming company, Nappy Boy Gaming.

"This covers album has been years in the making," the 2-time Grammy-winner said in a statement about his upcoming album. "I started recording this right after I won The Masked Singer. It got put on hold for a bit but now that I'm independent, I'm able to do whatever I want to do through Nappy Boy Entertainment and this is something I've felt strongly about for a long time. These songs are not what you'd expect when you hear that T-Pain is doing a covers album and that is what I think is cool about it.

On Top of the Covers releases on March 17, with T-Pain holding two back-to-back concerts at Los Angeles at the Sun Rose at Pendry West Hollywood from March 17 to 18.
