SZA on Not Winning a Grammy: "I Was Mad as Hell"

SZA talks honestly about her Grammy lose

SZA was nominated for five Grammys this year, for her breakout major label debut CTRL. She went home with zero, most notably losing the Best New Artist award to Alessia Clara (the outcome fans were most upset about.)

After losing out, SZA stayed quiet about the night. Until now.

On Wednesday morning GQ released a new interview with SZA, where she talked extensively about her Grammy lose. In the interview, SZA admits that she was "mad as hell" she didn't take home an award that night. Although she came to accept the outcome later.

Speaking about the social media uproar after she didn't win (and the IG post Alessia Cara put up) SZA said:

You know, I never looked at the Internet [after the Grammys]. I never looked at anything anyone ever said after that onlinenot once. The only time I ever heard about it was in person, when someone walked up to me and was like, You were robbed or whatever the fuck. I was like, I feel you. My home girl actually showed me Alessia [Cara]s post and I thought, This is really crazy.

I just didnt know how to take it. I didnt say anything, I didnt post, because Ive never had to deal with anything I really believed in wholeheartedly, or invested in, and went through something that publicly before. I wanted to be honest as fuck, and if today Im just mad as hell, I dont want to say something that reflects me being mad as hell. But I definitely feel blessed now. I also dont feel compelled to explain myself.

SZA went on to shower Cara with praise:

If anything, I feel compelled to express that I really, really fuck with Alessia Cara. Shes beautiful as fuck, her voice is like water, its like milk, I think its gorgeous. It has so much dimension, and she deserves every accolade that she gets. And people cant be mad. I dont give a fuck when her album came out! She sounds great right now! So, like, its over. You have to just move over and be grateful for the shit that did happen in your favor.
