SZA Says She's Recorded 100 Songs For Her Long-Awaited 'CTRL' Follow-Up

SZA gave an update to TMZ about her sophomore album, claiming that she's recorded roughly "five years of material."

SZA is apparently sitting on "five years" worth of music that fans are dying to hear. Over the weekend, the Grammy-winning vocalist was at LAX when stopped by TMZ, who asked about the release date of her sophomore album. Although the CTRL artist admitted that her music is undergoing a delay and could drop "any day" now, she also revealed that listeners could receive more songs than originally expected.

“Total? 100,” SZA said about the amount of songs she's recorded for her CTRL follow-up. “Maybe, like, I don’t even know actually. Five years of material.”

The timing is appropriate, as SZA's debut album released five years ago. In June, the singer-songwriter – whose real name is Solana Rowe – released a deluxe edition of her stellar debut with seven previously unreleased songs. In a recent Complex profile, she revealed that her new music would surprise longtime fans.

"It’s so bizarre. It’s weird that I can’t put my finger on it," she said. "It’s a little bit of everything. It’s a little aggressive. Some parts are incredibly soft. Some of them are ballads. I don’t know. It’s all over the place. It’s just where my heart is.”

SZA previously pointed at Top Dawg Entertainment president Terrence "Punch" Henderson as reason for her album's delay, which he later cleared up in a statement via Notes app. The two have since reconciled.

“To understand SZA is to know that she’ll say what she feels with no filter right in the moment. And then the next moment, everything is fine,” Punch told Complex.
