Syd Shares Unreleased Song From ‘Fin’ Sessions

Photo by Ginny Suss for Okayplayer.

Earlier this year, The Internet‘s leading lady, Syd, made a confident solo debut with her album, Fin. The project joined the group’s producer Matt Martians and guitar player Steve Lacy in stellar solo releases, with each member contributing heavily to one another’s projects and the band touring their respective solo material.

Last night, the singer revealed that her favorite song from the album never even made the final track list, promising to release the song today via Twitter. And today, she’s done just that, liberating “Treading Water” from the cutting floor to her Soundcloud page as a standalone bonus track. It’s an instant recall to Neptunes atmosphere, built around a bossa-ish guitar groove and the singer’s brokenhearted lilt, all of which will have you wondering how and why it didn’t stick. Whatever the reason, we’re certainly happy to put an ear to it.

Hear a new track from Syd down below and revisit her new album Fin on iTunes. It’s available on vinyl via The Shop. With festival season rapidly approaching, new tour dates are imminent. Stay tuned for more on that front in the weeks ahead.
