Stream R+R=Now’s Incredible Debut Album ‘Collagically Speaking’
The Robert Glasper x Terrace Martin-led supergroup speaks out against racism, for equal rights, and offer a genre-breaking sound on R+R=Now’s debut effort.
If you think that us here at Okayplayer are extremely busy, you need to look no further than the itinerary for R+R=NOW. The new jazz supergroup led by Robert Glasper and Terrace Martin features Derrick Hodge, Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, Taylor McFerrin and Justin Taylor as complimentary players in the group.
We have been chronicling their progress with song releases and tour date announcements. Now, Friday, June 15, the wait is finally over as R+R=Now’s debut album, Collagically Speaking, is out and available for streaming on Apple Music and Spotify via Blue Note. Songs such as “Colors in the Dark,” “Change of Tone,” and “Resting Warrior” offer tone and texture that blends each player’s expertise and makes Collagically Speaking an experimental journey into revolutionary sound.
With Glasper’s breezy key play, Hodge’s thundering thumping bass playing, Scott’s stellar horn solos, McFerrin’s patient-yet-powerful percussionism and Martin’s penchant for melody and synthesized, layer sound — Collagically Speaking is necessary for the times we live in and to continue to fight sonically against the evils that are plaguing humanity inside and outside of the United States.
