On his long-awaited follow-up to 2019 debut The Lost Boy, Cordae has taken flight. From a Birds Eye View rings in features from some of Cordae’s biggest influences, including Lil Wayne and Stevie Wonder, who joins Freddie Gibbs on “Champagne Glasses”. The rapper also dropped a surprise video for “Today” featuring Gunna.
The 14-track LP is largely based on Cordae’s “life-changing trip to Africa, enduring the loss of a friend gone too soon, and evolving as an artist and a man,” as explained in a press release for the album. Cordae’s voyage to Africa was captured in a 2021 multi-part docuseries, titled after his new album.
“I just went [to Africa] because that was just something I had to get off my spirit,” Cordae said in the vlog’s first episode. “And that was a bucket list thing for me too. It’s always been on my bucket list to go to Africa.”
Taking a cue from Adele, Cordae went to Twitter to ask fans to listen to his album without interruptions.
“Each individual song has a significant place in my heart as they were all inspired by real life events, emotions and experiences. With that, I ask ya’ll to listen to songs 1-12 (“Shilohs [sic] Intro”-“Westlake High”) from top to bottom with no pauses, skips or interruptions. As this is the way it was intended to be listened to, especially the first time around. As a complete body of work.”
