But before they hit The Ballroom in Houston this evening, the Chicago via St. Louis stunner has taken a moment to toast his 26th birthday with an infectious new loosie. Late last night, Smino relinquished a sunny Sango collaboration that offers the best of both respective worlds. “Sorbet” commences with a voicemail from fellow Chicago transplant, Akenya, warmly wishing Smino a happy one, before launching into some Sango-helmed tropicalia that should keep at least the memory of summer alive and well in this first week of autumnal feels. It’s Smino’s first solo track since the release of his critically-lauded debut album blkswn at the top of the year, following through Monte Booker and Ravyn Lenae (also supporting SZA on tour this fall) on collaborative one-offs.
