The Inglewood, CA native shares a few deep cuts from his latest album Chasing Summer including "John Redcorn."

SiR has finally touched down in D.C. to grace the miniature space known by many music lovers as NPR’s Tiny Desk series.

For his moving set, the Top Dawg Entertainment signee is joined by his mother and his older brother and another singer as background vocalists in addition to his band. For his performance, the Inglewood, CA native shares an emotionally riveting performance of deep cuts from his latest LP Chasing Summer.

“The Recipe,” a track touching on the rhythm found within love is his first selection. Joined by the background vocalists and the talented band, SiR also showcases the ups and downs of a relationship. Following this is “New Sky,” another love-centric song. His vocals take center stage as he gives a rendition of this cut and also present why he’s a voice to watch in the R&B genre currently.

Before he shares a rendition of another track he notes that he recently lost his godson who was just 14 months and old. “We’re doing this today for him. It took a lot for me to be here today… but we’re going to get through this.” Up next is “Wires In The Way,” a track about being lovestruck and struggling to get past these feelings.

“John Redcorn” arguably the best song on Chasing Summer is his last selection. SiR shares with the audience that it’s his favorite song on the album before jumping headfirst into it. It touches on yearning for the partnership of someone who you can never really have. The lyrics also expand on this by explicitly sharing that he and his lover can only exist in secret since she basically ends every night by returning to her "happy home." Quite honestly, the Academy did SiR a disservice by not nominating this track for Best R&B Performance or Best R&B Song for this year's Grammy Awards. The track has nearly 5 million streams alone on Spotify.
