Scarface Puts Out Call for Kidney Donor After Harrowing Battle with COVID-19

The Houston rap legend detailed his struggle with recovering from COVID-19 in an interview with Willie D earlier this year.

Scarface fans are lining up to donate an organ after the rapper revealed he was in need of a new kidney on Wednesday afternoon.

The Geto Boys icon put out a call for a kidney on Twitter yesterday, rallying his followers to find a suitable donor after suffering from a harrowing bout with COVID-19 earlier this year.

In April, he detailed the horrific effects of his battle with the virus in an interview with Willie D. And months into his recovery, speaking with Fox5DC, the rapper explained how "COVID attacked my lungs first, and then it attacked my kidneys and knocked them out," Scarface told his fellow Geto Boys alum. He went on to describe the toll it took on his body, adding "I got full lung recovery, but my kidneys never came back. I'm still a little weak. I don't have a lot of strength in my legs yet. I still haven't got full taste back and sense of smell yet. But I am glad to be alive."

Following his call for a donor, fans responded with overwhelming support and well-wishing. Some even volunteered to offer one of their own to the rapper, listing their medical history and proclaiming a willingness to undergo screening for the transplant. Others (because this is Twitter, after all,) took it as an opportunity to suggest holistic cures and remedies that go directly against science and a consensus amongst the medical community (all of which were almost immediately blasted.)

You can read through some of the responses to Scarface's call below. Join us in wishing the rapper a thorough and expedient return to full health.
