"I mean that’s like saying Bugs Bunny ain’t funny."

Samuel L. Jackson has weighed in on director Martin Scorsese's recent jabs at the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Variety caught up with the actor (and new voice of Amazon's Alexa) on the red carpet for the grand opening of Tyler Perry's new studio in Atlanta. After a few kind words for the evening's host, Jackson was asked whether he'd heard Scorsese's remarks about the comic book giant's film franchises being akin to a theme park, rather than a genuine cinematic experience.

After claiming to have paid little attention to the headline-making critique, Jackson reminds the interviewer of the subjective nature of assessing a film. "That’s like saying Bugs Bunny ain’t funny. Films are films. Everybody doesn’t like his stuff either," Jackson notes. He adds "Everybody’s got an opinion, so I mean it’s okay. Ain’t going to stop nobody from making movies."

To date, Jackson has starred as Nick Fury in 11 Marvel films and is slated appear in several more as the MCU enters "Phase 4," which promises more than a dozen new movie and TV titles for Disney's upcoming launch of a proprietary streaming platform.

Earlier this week, Guardians of The Galaxy director, James Gunn, referred to Scorsese as one of his "5 favorite living filmmakers," but voiced his disappointment in the director for judging these films without having seen them.
