Dropping singles throughout 2021 have all led up to Saba releasing his third album, A Few Good Things. On the album, Saba returns with production from daedaePIVOT, Daoud and Monte Booker, with star-studded features including 6lack, G Herbo, Black Thought, SiR, Smino, Fousheé and more.
This week, a short film, Few Good Things, that coincided with the album was released through independent digital live platform Moment House.
“The concept of Few Good Things is the realization of self after a search for exterior fulfillment. It is the satisfaction and completeness you gain by simply living a life that is yours,” said in a statement for the film. ‘Few’ is a small number, but ‘few’ is not lonely. In the face of all adversity, a ‘few good things’ is recognizing and accepting blessings. Few is to count them, one by one – an empty glass is full of air, an empty bank is full of lessons, and an empty heart is full of memories. ‘Few good things’ is to grow comfortable with the empty, and despite that, finding your fullness.”
In a new interview with Chicago Reader, the rapper revealed that he moved from Chicago’s West Side to Los Angeles, gave explanations of select tracks from A Few Good Things and how late-Pivot Gang member SqueakPIVOT heard before he passed last August.
“Squeak heard this whole album in full. The only thing that wasn’t there yet was the G Herbo verse. He got to hear all of this shit. It was done. It was supposed to come out way, way earlier. His passing is actually the reason why we did delay it… I tried to allow myself the proper time so that it doesn’t feel like less than, just because it’s independent or whatever. Squeak was able to hear all of this shit. Squeak was in the studio with me when we were mixing and mastering it. So you know, he is well aware of what I feel is about to happen.”
On A Few Good Things, Saba finds lightness through his grief and went to Twitter to prep fans on how to journey through the album.
