On Tuesday, February 11th, at midnight, Questlove jumped on Instagram to reveal the lineup for this year’s Roots Picnic. The festival will take place at The Mann Center for the Performing Arts at Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park on Saturday, August 1.
Hometown hero Meek Mill will headline, in addition to DaBaby, Summer Walker, Thundercat, Burna Boy, and Snoh Aalegra.
The festival was originally set for May 30, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced organizers to re-schedule. Organizers urged fans to hold onto their tickets, saying all original ticket purchases will be honored upon entry.
Also headlining will be The Roots, who will present a soul set, with appearances from Musiq Soulchild, SWV, and Brandy. Black Thought and J. Period will perform their live mixtape, with a bit of help from Griselda Records, Raekwon, and Ghostface Killah. And Meshell Ndegeocello will perform a reimagination of the work of Prince.
The festival will also feature live podcast recordings. Kid Fury and Crissle’s The Read, Elliot Wilson’s CRWN, and The Joe Budden Podcast will be recording. Additionally, Dussepalooza will provide refreshments.
Sir, Baby Rose, Buddy, and Phony Ppl will also hit the stage. Tickets went on sale Friday, February 14th at noon on Ticketmaster. Early Bird general admission tickets will go on sale for $69.50. Advance and Last Chance general admission tickets cost $79.50 and $89.50, respectively.
VIP packages are available for $350. VIP includes access to an air-conditioned full-service cash bar area, picnic-style seating, and an on-site host. Learn more at the festival’s official website.
