Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2023: A Tribe Called Quest, Missy Elliott Earn Nominations

Missy Elliott has received a first-time nomination for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, while A Tribe Called Quest and The Spinners return.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced their nominees for 2023. Among the 14 nominees are returning acts A Tribe Called Quest, The Spinners, Kate Bush, and more, while Missy Elliott, The White Stripes and others appear on the ballot for the first time.

Artists are eligible for nomination if their first commercial recording debuted at least 25 years beforehand. Elliott’s studio debut Supa Dupa Fly released in July 1997, with its 25th anniversary being celebrated last year.

“An artist’s musical impact and influence on other artists, length and depth of career and body of work, as well as innovation and superiority in style and technique are taken into consideration,” the Hall said in a statement announcing the nominees.

“This remarkable list of Nominees reflects the diverse artists and music that the Rock &Roll Hall of Fame honors and celebrates,” Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation Chairman John Sykes said in a statement. “These artists have created their own sounds that have impacted generations and influenced countless others that have followed in their footsteps.”

The 2023 class of inductees will officially be announced in May, with a ceremony date and location being determined in the fall.

Last year’s Rock Hall inductees included Eminem, Lionel Richie, Pat Benatar, Eurythmics, Carly Simon and Dolly Parton.
