Blue Note New York is bringing the groove to Napa Valley. From July 30-31, the Blue Note Jazz Festival will host their first outdoor, multi-stage event hosted by Dave Chappelle, featuring Robert Glasper as artist-in-residence and fellow headliner Maxwell. With his newly-released album Black Radio III, Glasper will perform onstage alongside Ledisi, Erykah Badu, D Smoke, Terrace Martin, and BJ The Chicago Kid.
The festival also boasts an all-star lineup of acts including Thundercat, Black Star, Flying Lotus, Maurice Brown featuring The Soul Rebels featuring GZA and Talib Kweli, Phony Ppl, Corrine Bailey Rae and more. While currently on tour, Maxwell will also make a notable appearance at the festival, as his upcoming album Ascension is expected to be released this year.
“The idea for the Blue Note Jazz Festival Napa Valley came out of Robert Glasper’s month longresidency at the Blue Note New York, held each October and dubbed Robtober,” said Blue Note Entertainment Group President Steven Bensusan in a statement. “Glasper curates a month of shows and collaborations spanning across the genres of jazz, R&B, hip hop, soul and comedy resulting in impromptu performances by celebrities and unannounced special guests. It is our plan to create an outdoor festival style version of Robtober in the spirit of a traditional jazz festival featuring spontaneous collaborations and once in a lifetime improvised performances.”
Tickets for the festival go on sale Tuesday, April 26th at 12 PT.
