When imitation falls short of flattery

According to a report from Barbados' Nation News, Rihanna's Fenty line with PUMA is at the center of a recent bootlegging bust. The culprit: Leroy Fitzgerald Brathwaite, the singer's uncle.

Brathwaite was charged by a local court for selling knock-offs of her PUMA line, which the singer herself spotted in circulation on a recent trip back to the island. The report states that Rihanna called her PUMA rep, who made a swift appearance to evaluate the authenticity of products moving through Barbados. It was the rep that reported his findings to authorities, subsequently launching the investigation that pin-pointed Brathwaite. The defendant has pleaded not guilty and his attorney is contesting that charges were improperly brought to the court, hoping to dismiss them altogether.

Currently, the case has adjourned until next week. They'll return to court on Tuesday, November 28th, to continue the hearing. Meanwhile, Brathwaite was released on $1,000 bail. Should make for an intense (or at least interesting) dinnertime discussion as the Fentys gather for Thanksgiving. Have mercy, RiRi.
