Rick Ross to Release Memoir Addressing His Past as a Corrections Officer

Hurricanes is slated to hit shelves September 2019.

Rick Ross is releasing a memoir.

The 43-year-old Florida rapper made the announcement on Wednesday (March 6) and posted a photo of the book cover to Instagram earlier this week, with a caption that read, "A storm is coming... #HURRICANES THE STORY OF MY LIFE!" Hurricanes: A Memoir, co-written by Neil Martinez-Belkin, is slated to hit shelves on September 3, 2019.

Most would speculate Ross, born William Leonard Roberts II, has lived a pretty interesting life.

In 2010, reformed drug kingpin "Freeway" Ricky Ross sued the rapper in a $10 million copyright infringement lawsuit for using his name. Since 2011, reports of Ross enduring seizures have made the news and he's addressed his health in and outside of music. In 2013, he was reportedly the target of a drive-by shooting. In 2018, he was hospitalized and on life support after another health scare.

Since 2008, fans and critics have questioned his early past as a corrections officer. Ross had initially denied the reports and claimed photos of him wearing a C.O. uniform were doctored before eventually confirming.

An official description for the book confirms it will address this:

“From the making of ‘Hustlin’ to his first major label deal with Def Jam, to the controversy surrounding his past as a correctional officer and the numerous health scares, arrests and feuds he had to transcend along the way, Hurricanes is a revealing portrait of one of the biggest stars in the rap game, and an intimate look at the birth of an artist.”

“My story has always been deeper than rap,” Ross said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly. “With this book, I wanted to go deeper than I ever have. I wanted to tell people about the life of William Leonard Roberts.”

Ross' book is available for pre-order here.
