Ria Hall is a visionary new artist who is putting on for Australia and New Zealand. Her latest, “Black Light” makes its premiere right here @Okayplayer.

After debuting atop the Australian and New Zealand iTunes charts, Ria Hall finally is ready to release her debut album to the masses. Titled Rules Of Engagement, we are ecstatic to premiere her latest from the project, “Black Light,” which was produced by Electric Wire Hustle and features guest vocals from the group’s frontman, Mara TK.

Created in memory of the great Ralph Hotere, “Black Light” and its lyrics were inspired by the many works he created over the years. “The key message in my album is to encourage understanding,” Ria told us via email. “In order to understand where we are heading to, we must not only acknowledge our past, we must understand its implications and the effect it has had on the current landscape of New Zealand. We can do so much better in this area and it seems we have only made incremental change. I would love to help effect a dramatic shift for the betterment of generations to come.”

“Black Light,” as with Rules Of Engagement, Ria Hall understands the power of delivering a universally appealing and uplifting message to not just oppressed people around the world, but the oppressors doing the oppressing. Calling for unity between peoples and countries, Ria Hall’s album and song offering draw on themes of revolution, change and how the Māori and others can come together in peace, love and harmony.

With Rules Of Engagement five years in the making, @Okayplayer is excited to share this next installment in Ria Hall’s journey with you all. It is our hope that you keep an open mind and ear when listening to this song and know that the key to all of this is understanding.
