Report: Kanye’s ‘Jesus is King’ Closes with a Clipse Reunion…and Kenny G

The rapper’s ninth studio album is now slated for release tomorrow, just in time for another Sunday Service.

Last night, Kanye treated a crowd of 1,000 or so in Detroit’s historic Fox Theater to the first of three listening parties that will precede the eventual release of his new album, Jesus is King.

And though we weren’t personally in attendance, a Billboard report fills in some of the blanks, particularly those left on the guest list and the general tone of the album. It doesn’t offer a full run of the features heard on Jesus is King but it does confirm that the album’s final track (of 10) is blessed by a Clipse reunion and, for no apparent reason, Kenny G. It’s unclear whether the soft jazz sax man appears via studio performance or by way of sample, but apparently, it won’t be too long before we find out. The report also notes that the entire evening was filmed by IMAX and was capped by previews of two feature-length documentaries; one on the Sunday Service performances and another on his dome development project.

PLAYLIST: The Round-Up: Best Songs of The Week – ft. The Roots, Wiki, Summer Walker and More

Originally slated for release on Friday, September 27th, the album was delayed and is now reportedly locked-in for a release this Sunday — just in time for another service. But the jury’s still out on whether it’ll actually turn up.

Head to Billboard to read the full report and stay tuned for updates in the hours ahead.
