After announcing an international tour earlier this week, with one of performances supposed to be in Australia, Australian politicians have requested the government to ban R. Kelly from the country and block his visa application.

“Labor strongly supports the refusal or cancellation of visas of non-citizens on character or criminal grounds,” Australia’s opposition party said in a statement to the BBC.
“If the Immigration Minister suspects that a non-citizen does not pass the character test, or there is a risk to the community while they are in Australia, he should use the powers he has under the Migration act to deny or cancel their visa,” senior opposition lawmaker Shayne Neumann said in a statement obtained by the Associated Press.
The R&B singer had previously announced the tour on Twitter, saying that he was touring Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
“New tour alert! Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, see y’all soon!” Kelly had tweeted. The post has since been deleted.
Kelly’s sexual assault allegations have resurfaced following the release of Surviving R. Kelly. The docuseries featured interviews with over 50 people about Kelly, many of whom were women who detailed the artist’s alleged long history of sexual, physical, and mental abuse.
Since the series’ release, Kelly has been dropped by Sony and is under a criminal investigation opened by the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office in Georgia. He has also been symbolically banned from the city of Philadelphia.
Kelly is also reportedly trying to distribute his new album which was supposedto be released through Sony’s RCA Records. The R&B singer reclaimed ownership of his unreleased works “as part of his agreement to leave the record label” as part of his agreement to leave RCA.
