Last week, Nicki Minaj announced she’d be retiring from music to focus on starting a family with her partner, Kenneth Petty.
After the abrupt statement on Twitter, Minaj apologized, calling the sudden announcement “insensitive” to her fans and promised to address the decision on a forthcoming episode of Queen Radio.
Queen Latifah commented on the announcement in support. A TMZ cameraman asked her for her thoughts and she responded saying, she “must be in love and happy,” and adding, “Let her live, she’s been grinding for a long time.”
Latifah also noted rappers’ tendency to continue rapping, saying, “Once you’re a rapper, you’re always a rapper. She’ll be back.”

In 2013, Minaj appeared as a guest on an episode of the “The Queen Latifah Show.” Minaj went on to sing Latifah’s praises saying, “You’ve opened so many doors for me and so many other women. And it’s insane because I always reference you when I talk about female rapper’s who’ve kind of paved the way in terms f a businesswoman and mogul and just all-around entertainer.”
