Legendary rapper-producer Q-Tip teamed up with Jack White on the new single “Hi-De-Ho.” The song will be appear on White’s next solo album Fear of the Dawn. Tip and White last connected on ATCQ’s 2016 album We Got It from Here… Thank You 4 Your Service on tracks “Solid Wall of Sound, “”Ego” and “The Donald.”
White recently spoke with Rolling Stone about “Hi-De-Ho” where he shared that Q-Tip immediately came to mind when he was producing the track.
“I just heard that Cab Calloway song on the radio in the kitchen one day and I thought, ‘I love that song, and it’s just so powerful. You know what would be great? It’d be great to sample that scatting that Cab Calloway does on there and have that scatting go along with a drumbeat,’” White said. “So I sampled it and then just played a drumbeat that seemed to go along with it and then I grabbed a bass and I wrote a bassline for that drum beat and on and on it went. And then pretty soon I thought, ‘Man, this is so interesting. I wonder if Q-Tip would find something interesting about this?’”
Q-Tip’s feature on “Hi-De-Ho” follows the announcement of ATCQ being nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as the impending Class of 2022. The group joins fellow 2022 nominees Eminem, Fela Kuti, Dionne Warwick, Lionel Richie and more. Inductees will be announced in May with an Rock Hall induction ceremony being held in the fall.
