Pusha T‘s third solo album, Daytona, comes out tonight. It’s been three years in the making. On Wednesday night, he had an album listening party in New York City where he played the entire seven-track album.
On Thursday the cover for the album was released. It’s a doozy. The cover features a bathroom that’s been trashed. Joe Coscarelli of the NY Times pointed out that Pusha’s cover was a National Enquirer shot of Whitney Houston’s bathroom:

Pusha revealed the origin story behind the cover while on the Angie Martinez show on Power 105. He said that it cost $85,000 to get the rights for the photo. This cover came around after Kanye West did a quick audible on the original one.
Here’s the exchange that led to the new cover, according to DJBooth.
1 AM, my phone rings. There’s no caller ID. ‘Hey, yeah, I think we should change the artwork. And I like this other artwork. And this other artwork is 85 grand. I said, ‘Hey, I don’t want to pay for that and I wasn’t even going to ask you to pay for that.’ We picked what we picked, it’s here, it’s ready. ‘No, this is what people need to see to go along with this music,’ [Kanye responded]. ‘I’ma pay for dat.’ I say, ‘You my man! [laughs] You my man!
