Prince’s Personal DJ Pam The Funkstress Is In Critical Condition At Hospital
“Pam The Funkstress is in ICU, fighting for her life,” friend and The Coup group member, Boots Riley, says via Facebook.
Friend of the site and all-around hip-hop legend, Boots Riley took to Facebook earlier last week to confirm that Pam The Funkstress is enlisted at a Bay Area hospital ICU fighting for her life. For those unaware, Pam was Prince’s personal DJ and a member of The Coup.
“She’s stubborn, strong, and a fighter — but could use your thoughts, love and well wishes in any way you see fit,” Riley wrote. “Her family will show her this post. It will energize her.” Purple Pam — a nickname she earned because of her work with Prince — provided many of the cuts and scratches on The Coup’s tracks, including 1993’s “Kill My Landlord” and 2006’s “Pick a Bigger Weapon”.
She was also on hand for Prince’s final tour, the Piano and a Microphone Tour, where she served as his DJ for many of the show’s after parties. “Do to unforeseen health issues I am forced to cancel all gigs until further notice,” Pam wrote on Instagram. “Thank you for understanding. Love you all.” With friends, peers and comrades taking to social media to show their support for Purple Pam, names such as Daveed Diggs and others made sure to spread the word.
No further details have been made available about Pam’s condition. Share your own well wishes with them as soon as possible.
