An Exhibition About Prince Is Opening in Seattle This Spring

The Museum of Pop Culture will feature an exhibit on the musician in April.

A Prince exhibition is coming to Seattle this spring.

The Museum of Pop Culture will be hosting the “Prince from Minneapolis” exhibition from April 6, 2019, to January 4, 2020. The show is in conjunction with the University of Minnesota’s Weisman Art Museum and will feature nearly 50 artifacts — including instruments, photographs, artworks, and clothes — belonging to the late legend from his early days to the Purple Rain tour and beyond.

Pictures by Minneapolis photographers Allen Beaulieu, Nancy Bundt, Terry Gydesen, and Robert Whitman will be included, along with works by Seattle artist Troy Gua, who recreates Prince in art doll form, and the de la Torre brothers, who created memorial spirit figures in glass at Minneapolis’ FOCI glass studio days after Prince’s death in April 2016.

“Prince embodied so many of the themes we like to explore at MoPOP,” MoPOP Curator Brooks Peck said in a press release statement. “He drew on the work of the greats who came before him, yet created his own, truly original style and sound. He defied convention and broke boundaries, and he continues to inspire musicians as well as artists of all kinds to this day.”
