Premiere: Veteran Chicago Rapper Psalm One Preps New Album With “Cristalle Jr.”

Veteran Chicago rapper and author Cristalle Bowen aka Psalm One readies her tenth studio album Bigg Perrm with new single “Cristalle Jr.”

Rapper, scholar, teacher and author Cristalle “Psalm One” Bowen tranforms into “Cristalle Jr.” in the new single full of  double entendres, shots fired and sexual tension from her new album Bigg Perrm. Accompanied by a music video, “Cristalle Jr.” comes four months following Bowen’s debut memoir Her Word Is Bond: Navigating Hip Hop and Relationships in a Culture of Misogyny released via Haymarket Books. To support Her Word Is Bond, Bowen is currently on a fall book tour with stops in Roxbury, New York City, Baltimore, Durham, Chicago and Iowa City. More dates are expected to be added to the tour, with Bowen also holding new rap shows.

On September 30, Bowen will release her tenth studio album Bigg Perrm to all major DSPSs, with sole production from Custom Made. Bigg Perrm can also be purchased on Bowen’s Bandcamp. The album is preceded by DJ Sean Doe-hosted mixtape Styles Before Perrm, a curated mix of  Bowen’s top songs throughout her extensive career.

“Psalm One’s pen is as sharp as ever, with her social commentary and urgent vulnerability at full volume on this project,” reads a statement for the upcoming LP. “Inspired by Madam C.J. Walker, private pools, improved mental health and personal accountability, Bigg Perrm is the soundtrack of someone who’s doing the work and finding balance in the turmoil. In other words, it’s a straightening.”
