Pop Smoke's Posthumous Debut Album to Arrive This Summer
His manager Steven Victor revealed the album will arrive on June 12.
Pop Smoke's posthumous debut album is officially in the works. On Thursday, his manager Steven Victor revealed the forthcoming release date. Victor did not reveal the album title or official artwork.
Pop Smoke released Meet the Woo 2 less than two weeks before his death. The album featured guest appearances from Quavo, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Fivio Foreign, Lil Tjay, and more. Nav, Gunna, and PnB Rock appeared on the album's deluxe edition. The project peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 on the week of February 22.
Back in March, 50 Cent announced his intentions to finish the Brooklyn MC's debut album. He reached out to Chris Brown and Roddy Ricch for guest appearances. On Instagram Live, he recalled a meeting with Pop Smoke that caught his eye.
"There's a difference between a nigga copying you," he said. "He never copied one fucking thing from me. He just looked at it, saw what was good in it. It influenced him, and he did his own thing wit hit...I fell in love with the nigga right then."
Pop Smoke was killed in a home invasion at a Hollywood Hills residence on February 24. Authorities are still investigating whether the shooting was a targeted hit or robbery gone wrong.
Most recently, Lil Tjay's "Zoo York" features a posthumous Pop Smoke verse, in addition to Fivio Foreign. "Zoo York" and Meet the Woo 2 are currently available on major streaming platforms.
