Chicago Police Visit R. Kelly's Recording Studio Because of Lifetime Doc

Update: Police reportedly stopped by R. Kelly's Chicago studio after it received public attention from Lifetime's "Surviving R. Kelly docu-series.

According to a report in TMZ, law enforcement visited the controversial singer’s westside studio, the headquarters for his alleged sex trafficking/cult, and where parents of alleged victim Azriel Clary tried to retrieve their daughter at in episode six of the "Surviving R. Kelly."

Authorities told TMZ the studio was vacant at the time of their visit. The outlet reported there was a party at the location Tuesday night, on what was Kelly's 52nd birthday. Officers plan to do a routine check on the studio and patrol the studio. According to The Blast, the recording studio is currently up for sale after Kelly fell behind on rent payments. An eviction lawsuit was reportedly filed against him in July by the owner of the building, Midwest Commercial Funding.

R. Kelly is now under criminal investigation and officials in the Cook County State's Attorney office are determining if prosecutors have a case against him.

According to a report in The Blast Officials in the Cook County State’s Attorney office say they received an immense response after issuing a plea for alleged victims of R. Kelly to come forward and cooperate. Now, they are reportedly working to determine if prosecutors have a case against the controversial singer.

A rep for the State’s Attorney office told The Blast they received calls after the press conference with State Attorney Kim Foxx, and that they are “in the process of reviewing and following up on these calls.”

Foxx's call for alleged victims and people with information to contact prosecutors went viral after she said the footage from the Lifetime docu-series “Surviving R. Kelly” was “sickening.”

The district attorney in Fulton County, GA is currently investigating R. Kelly and launched the probe after the Lifetime docu-series aired. The D.A. has reportedly spoken with at least one of Kelly’s alleged victims.

R. Kelly's accusers are reportedly worried the controversial singer may be planning to leave the country with his alleged captive victims amidst the criminal investigation.

According to The Blast, sources connected to the alleged victims say there is a rumor circulating that R. Kelly is preparing to leave the United States, and possibly head to a country in Africa to seek solace.

The Chief Investigator has been in contact with the family of Joycelyn Savage, who is believed to still be in captivity under Kelly. Savage was asked to sit down with investigators for questioning. Her family says they have not been able to contact her and that it's been years since they've spoken. Her family was allegedly threatened by Kelly’s manager for participating in the Lifetime series and for trying to contact her.

According to a report in CNN, an arrest warrant was issued over the summer for R. Kelly's former manager, James Mason, after a May 2018 incident where he was accused of threatening to kill the father of Joycelyn Savage.

A Magistrate Judge issued a warrant in July, citing "terroristic threats and acts."

R. Kelly has denied allegations over the years but has not yet commented on whether he will cooperate with the criminal investigation.
