According to Gothamist, the 48-0 vote approves the dedication of Christopher Wallace Way to a stretch of St.James Place between Greene and Fulton in Fort Greene, Wu-Tang Clan District as the first name to a street at the southeast corner Vanderbilt Avenue and Targee Street in Staten Island, and Woody Guthrie Way to a sliver of Mermaid Avenue between West 35th and West 36th Streets in Coney Island. The co-namings for Wu-Tang and the late Brooklyn rapper were largely sparked by the petitioning of local cultural historian and advocate, LeRoy McCarthy, who also spearheaded wall-scaled dedications to The Beastie Boys, A Tribe Called Quest, and Aretha Franklin.
