9 New Hip-Hop & R&B Albums You Should Be Listening to Right Now (Week of May 28)

This week’s crop of new albums includes DMX’s Exodus, a tribute to Tulsa’s Black Wall Street, and more.

It’s almost a full-time job trying to keep up with all the new music that’s dropping these days. There’s new albums, new EPs, deluxe editions of the albums, and surprise releases every week. That’s why every Friday, we here at Okayplayer round up the best new albums for your listening pleasures. Check out this week’s list below and pick out any to catch your eye.

This time around, we have Exodus, DMX’s long-awaited eighth studio album. The project, which is only technically a posthumous release, features JAY-Z and Nas, a reunion with former labelmates the LOX. On the boards, the project has production from Swizz Beatz, Kanye West, AraabMuzik, and more. Additionally, we have Fire in Little Africa: an album created by members of the Tulsa music scene commemorating the 100th anniversary of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre.

Detroit producer Black Noi$e has dropped the instrumentals to his critically-acclaimed, underground star-studded Oblivion album. Mereba is celebrating the birth of her son and release of her AZEB EP. Mustafa Ahmed (also known as Mustafa the Poet of Toronto’s Halal Gang) released his first full-length solo debut, When Smoke Rises, and Atlanta underground star UnoTheActivist returns with Unoverse 2. Florida MC Wifisfuneral returns with his sophomore studio album, Smoking Mirrors.
