Solange Has Composed a Score for the New York City Ballet

Solange has composed a score for the New York City Ballet which will accompany a performance at the Lincoln Center, premiering in September.

Solange is bringing her vision to the Lincoln Center in September. The New York Times has reported that the musical polymath has composed a score for the New York City Ballet which will accompany a performance choreographed by Gianna Reisen.

Premiering September 28 at the Lincoln Center, the singer-songwriter's music will be performed by the New York City Ballet's chamber orchestra. The ballet will hold performances again on October 1, 8, 11, and 16 as well as May 2, 11, 13, 17, and 18. As part of New York City Ballet’s Fall Fashion Gala, Solange and Reisen’s performance will be paired with costumes by Alejandro Gómez Palomo of genderless fashion brand Palomo Spain.

Solange, who was name-dropped on "Break My Soul (The Queens Remix)" by older sister Beyoncé featuring Madonna, released her fourth album, When I Get Home, in 2019. Recently, the artist has been tapped for the Virgil Abloh-dedicated Louis Vuitton "Generation V" campaign, along with NIGO, Yussef Dayes and Mos Def. In March, Solange received the 2022 Global Trailblazer Award for Creative and Artistic Excellence from New York University for her work as a solo artist and creating multidisciplinary creative institution Saint Heron.

“I’m so incredibly honored to be recognized for my own art as well as the work I’ve done through Saint Heron… Long ago, I decided it was important for me to create the work and spaces that I wanted to see and be a part of," she told Page Six.

She added: “The vision for Saint Heron has been to build a space that engages radical conceptual imaginings across all mediums of creation and that uplifts works created by our own artists.”
