A sign of vinyl's immutable hold

As vinyl sales continue to climb, and the CD continues to plummet into obsolescence, the nation's record manufacturing is already responding to the uptick in demand of acetates.

A new record pressing plant in Chicago, Smashed Plastics, is the first Windy City plant to be resurrected in over 20 years. According to The Chicago Reader, the plant is housed in the old Hammond Factory at 4200 Workshop, intending to address the lengthy wait times between test and final pressings as more and more independent artists opt for the warmth of wax and grooves. A soft launch is already underway with a full and official opening commencing at the top of 2019.

Should the need for expansion arise, the plant is already prepared to build out, readying itself or the acquisition of two more WarmTone presses on top the one currently in use.
