Nas and Hit-Boy reign once again. Nearly two weeks after releasing their fourth collaborative album King’s Disease III, it’s projected that the project will debut at No. 9 on the Billboard 200, moving 30,000 units in its first week, per HitsDailyDouble. Nas is now tied with former rival JAY-Z for most top ten albums for a rapper.
Nas and Hit-Boy’s previous effort Magic debuted at No. 27 with 22,000 units, while their mid-2021 LP took the No. 2 spot with 47,000 units. Their debut LP King’s Disease took home the Grammy for Best Rap Album in 2021, earning Nas his first-ever Grammy Award after receiving 14 nominations.
The top-ten project comes less than a week after Her Loss co-artist 21 Savage deemed Nas “not relevant,” later retracting the comment.
While visiting Apple Music’s Rap Life, Hit-Boy discussed why the two went on a ‘featureless’ route for KD3.
“Honestly, it was once we got deeper into the album because I definitely was thinking and conceptualizing on who could be a part of it,” he said. “I even pulled up some features that I had in my computer from different artists and we tried stuff, but nothing really connected on a level of what we was doing solo. This is, I believe, Nas’ first album ever with no features so that’s an ill thing in itself.”
Since releasing KD3, Nas and Hit-Boy have dropped new single “Michael & Quincy,” comparing their success to the legendary partnership between the late Michael Jackson and music extraordinaire Quincy Jones.
