Miles Davis lives on in previously unreleased live track “Code 3.” The song, originally performed at Theatre St. Denis on July 7, 1983 is part of Davis’ forthcoming posthumous music set, Miles Davis – That’s What Happened 1982-1985: The Bootleg Series Vol. 7, from the multi-instrumentalist’s long-running ‘Bootleg Series.’ The performance included an all-star roster of one of his final bands with saxophonist, flautist and electric pianist, Bill “The Other Bill Evans” Evans; percussionist Mino Cinelu, drummer Al Foster and bassist Darryl Jones.
Along with live tracks “What It Is (Live In Montreal – July 7, 1983)” and “Code 3” the 3CD set includes two discs of previously unreleased studio material from Davis’ Star People, Decoy and You’re Under Arrest Sessions. With a third disc featuring Davis’ Miles Davis Live in Montreal on July 7, 1983 performance, the collection comes in a slipcase with mini-jackets for each individual album and a booklet featuring liner notes by author and journalist Marcus J. Moore. Also in the boxset are interviews with Davis’ key players from the 1980s, including drummer and bandmate Vince Wilburn, Jr.; bassists Darryl Jones and Marcus Miller and guitarists Mike Stern and John Scofield.
Miles Davis – That’s What Happened 1982-1985: The Bootleg Series Vol. 7 is available for pre-order via Sony Music Entertainment’s Legacy Recordings in a 3CD set and expected to ship on September 13. The album will also be released as a 2LP white vinyl and in hi-res digital audio format on September 16.
