Michael Jackson's Iconic "Thriller" Video to Make 3D Debut at Venice Film Festival

MJ's legendary 1984 music video will return to the big screen with an added dimension

In celebration of the record-setting album's 35th anniversary, a long-rumored 3D adaptation of Michael Jackson's iconic "Thriller" music video will be hitting the big screen, per Billboard.

Premiering at the Venice Film Festival, the full John Landis-directed 14-minute treatment will be screened alongside its accompanying documentary, marking the doc's first-ever screening (originally a VHS-exclusive, released in 1983 and discontinued in 1990) and the video's first time in theaters since its sold-out three-week run at Los Angeles' Avco Theatre in 1983. In partnership with Optimum Productions, the video has been restored and enhanced from high-definition negatives of the original 35mm film, which Landis describes as "spectacular." He also claims to have taken advantage of the 3D process in a way that allowed him to pack in some sort of "surprise," though he was tight-lipped about precisely what that was. Michael Jackson's Thriller 3D will be screened August 30th through September 9th during the festival's 74th annual procession.
