This head-nod-inducing cut, “Ball,” finds Michael Christmas flexing on his haters and critics like a young Jaylen Brown to hype up his Role Model debut.

Just in time for Game 5 of the NBA Playoffs between the Boston Celtics and the Cleveland Cavaliers, rapper-comedian Michael Christmas releases “Ball,” a funkier-than-a-mosquito’s-tweeter track, produced by Thelonious Martin and Aniko Thomas, for his haters and critics. Best known as a viral hitmaker and Complex’s “25 New Rappers to Watch Out For,” Christmas offers a gift of a song, equipped with an ill dig to America’s worst team (the Los Angeles Lakers), love to the big boys (“Fat boy made good / Not yet, but he stay hood”), and even a Dragon Ball reference with Goku’s “Nimbus”.

The Boston native definitely plans on choke-slamming the game with this one, as it marks his preemptive strike to hip people to his Fool’s Gold debut album, Role Model, which is out everywhere on June 22. “Ball” follows his inaugural single, “Girlfriend,” a single and video which co-starred comedians, Orlando Jones and Ron Funches. As Christmas continues to build out his visual and musical presentation as we get closer and closer to Role Model’s release.

“Essentially what this album is capturing is me trying to teach the kids (which I use my sisters as the vessel for) how I maneuver through the craziness we see every day,” states Christmas about his Fool’s Gold effort in a press release. “I had been questioning for a long time whether I’m a good role model or not and came to the conclusion that I am a piece of shit… but who better to lead the kids through this piece of shit world than me? So I made an album talking about the way I see things and my life as of late while having my sisters watch me and pick up on these things themselves.”

We’re waiting with baited breath for the album’s tracklist, so we can see what lessons he might be going into when Role Model comes out.

Listen to “Ball” below, and be sure to get your copy of Role Model via Fool’s Gold when it drops on June 22.
