Virginia-via-Jamaica musician Masego has returned with a new track. This time around, he recruited Houston upstart Don Toliver for “Mystery Lady.” On Tuesday, he dropped the visualizer for the track. He also announced his next project, the Studying Abroad EP, would be dropping on Friday. Stream the “Mystery Lady” visualizer below.
The upcoming project is Masego’s first project since 2018’s Lady Lady album. Back in October, he dropped “Silver Tongue Devil” with dancehall star Shenseea. The release came on the heels of his appearance at the BET Awards in June, in addition to “Good & Plenty” and “Stickin,” his collaborations with Alex Isley, Sinead Harnett and VanJess. 2020 has also brought collaborations with Kehlani (“Hate The Club”) and Ro James (“Slow Down”).
Despite the numerous features, Masego has been relatively quiet on the solo front. Earlier this month, he teased fans asking him about an upcoming full-length album. In response to a tweet from March 2019, asking what he was doing (presumably in regards to dropping new music), he responded in true virtuosic form. “Right now I’m analyzing the vocal shake (vibrato) in Don Toliver’s “Lemonade,” he wrote. “And Post Malone’s “Rockstar” at the 1:00 minute mark. I find the similarities interesting.” Perhaps the analysis led to this collaboration.
Toliver’s been on a hot streak as of late as well. After releasing his Heaven or Hell project earlier this year, he gained viral fame on TikTok with his notable feature on Internet Money’s “Lemonade.”
