Marlon Craft & Kota The Friend Get Introspective on New Track "Mom's Whiskey" [Premiere]

New York City rapper Marlon Craft finally officially releases one of his most cherished freestyles "Mom's Whiskey."

Back in 2019, New York City rapper Marlon Craft started a YouTube series called "Flavors." Every couple of weeks, he would drop a quick freestyle, detailing emotions he was feeling at the time. For week two he released "Mom's Whiskey," a rhyme he wrote after he found a bottle of his mom's whiskey in the house.

It quickly became the most popular freestyle in the series. And now, more than a year later, the freestyle is an official track. Marlon Craft has just released the official version of "Mom's Whiskey" This time the song includes a feature from buzzing Brooklyn rapper Kota The Friend.

We are proud to be premiering the track, which is now available on all major DSP platforms.

Over email (social distancing) Marlon spoke about the song, which has become a fan favorite, and why he decided to put Kota on the official version. Marlon said:

I'm just a big fan of his and I love his music. We met mad long ago when I didn't even know he rapped. He was shooting videos then and he shot my first few videos when I came home from college and started going all in on music. For this, I just really heard him on it. The sound, the subject matter and I knew it was something he would add to. I just wanted him to be Kota on it. We linked up and he did just that.

Marlon is right now crafting an EP, which has been delayed because coronavirus has frozen the music business. He didn't want to tell us a lot about the EP — other than longtime Kid Cudi collaborator Plain Pat is a producer on it — but he was able to divulge some information about the upcoming EP:

Each song on the new EP is its own moment.  The body ends up being cohesive, but each song really stands on its own and tells the story of the highs, lows, and in between of where I’ve been at right now on my path...I am trying to figure out what music people need to have right now and how to get it to them - and not just proceed with business as usual.

Marlon Craft released his debut, Funhouse Mirror, back in the summer of 2019. Hopefully we can see a proper follow up soon.

In the meantime, check out "Mom's Whiskey" below.
