Stream Westside Gunn’s Star-Studded New Album ‘WHO MADE THE SUNSHINE,’ ft. Black Thought, Slick Rick and More

The Buffalo rapper’s major-label debut features appearances from Black Thought, Busta Rhymes, Slick Rick, and the whole Griselda team.

Just days after its announcement, Westside Gunn‘s star-studded new album, WHO MADE THE SUNSHINE, has officially landed.

It marks the Griselda Records star’s debut outing under a major label, strengthening the very logical bond between the Buffalo camp and Shady Records under Sony/Interscope. Gunn’s third (!) solo project of the year features a righteous roster of rap royalty and ascending stars, including Black Thought, Slick Rick, Busta Rhymes, and Jadakiss, as well as the entire Griselda squad. Production on the album is largely handled by Daringer and Beat Butcha, but also features credits from The Alchemist and Just Blaze.

Ahead of the album’s release, Gunn shared a career-charting mini-doc called Connie’s Son. The 9-minute-plus featurette uncovers the secret history of Griselda’s connection with a small town in Alabama, where each member and their respective families hold ties. It’s an intimate and deeply personal account of the rapper’s time running from the law, returning to Troy with a bundle of gifts for his mother, Connie.

WHO MADE THE SUNSHINE was initially slated for an August release but was postponed out of respect for Griselda’s in-house selector and longtime collaborator, DJ Shay, who passed away in mid-August of undisclosed causes. “U was there EVERY step of the way, It was an honor to help your dream come true for Buffalo Hip Hop,” Gunn wrote in a statement mourning the loss of Shay.

Scroll on to stream Westside Gunn’s new album, WHO MADE THE SUNSHINE, below. Watch him recount his time on the lam in the Connie’s Son mini-doc above and hold tight for the Griselda rapper’s next transmission in the weeks and months ahead. At this rate, it could be any day now.
