Missy Elliott Announces Surprise New Project 'Iconology' Source: Missy Elliott

Update: Missy Elliott has released her first new project in 14 years.

The project is called Iconology, and it's a five-track EP. (One of the tracks is acapella version of another song.) With the release of the EP came a new video, for "Throw it Back."

The project is dropping tonight at midnight.

Ahead of her receiving the Video Vanguard Award at this year's MTV VMAs on August 26 (Monday), Missy Elliott will be releasing a new project titled Iconology.

The rapper shared the news on social media.

If the project turns out to be an album, it'll be Missy's first album in 14 years. She released her last album, The Cookbook, back in 2005. Iconology drops at midnight tonight (Thursday).

This year, Missy will be the recipient of the Video Vanguard Award at the 2019 MTV VMAs.

The icon will also perform at the ceremony before accepting the award which honors artists for their contributions to the world of music videos. Past recipients include Beyoncé, Rihanna, Madonna, Kanye West, and Britney Spears.

“Missy’s impact on the music landscape is indelible,” head of music and music talent at Viacom Bruce Gillmer said in a press release. “Her creative vision across production, performance and songwriting is unmatched.”
