Harvard Says Lil Pump Won't Be the 2019 Commencement Speaker

Update: Lil Pump won't be making Harvard history after all.

Harvard University denied reports that rapper Lil Pump would be speaking at the 2019 commencement. He will not be replacing German Chancellor Angela Merkel as the ceremony's speaker, the university confirmed to The Hill Monday.

"As previously announced, Angela Merkel will be Harvard’s Commencement 2019 speaker," the university said.

Warner Bros. Records sent out a press release Monday claiming the rapper would be this year's commencement speaker.

See the original story below.

Lil Pump might make history soon.

The Miami rapper's record label claims he's giving Harvard University's 2019 commencement speech. At 18 years old, this could make him Harvard's youngest commencement speaker ever.

The university's 368th ceremony is set to take place May 30 at the Tercentenary Theatre in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

As far as how Pump finessed his way here, unknown, but it appears to have been confirmed by the school. WHRB Harvard Radio reportedly made a formal announcement on-air Monday morning, and an accompanying Warner Bros. Records press release notes the rapper will officially become the “youngest commencement speaker in history.”

“You don’t gotta graduate from Harvard to do this speech,” Lil Pump said in a statement.” I dropped out, so they called me like they called the guy that made Windows and PCs and shit before I was born. You just need a cap and gown, which I got. When I found out, I was happy to give everyone a lesson. I’m all about the youth. Yes, they are the future. This is a preview of my speech, one word: ESSKEETIT!!!!!!”

Though this could also all just be promotional fodder for his next project— the rapper just released his sophomore album, Harverd Dropout on Friday (Feb. 22).

Also, as you were probably wondering, he was not enrolled at Harvard University.
