Lil Nas X’s historic hit “Old Town Road (Remix)” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus has been nominated for a Country Music Award.
Earlier this year, Billboard made a controversial move to remove the song from its Hot Country Songs chart after determining it didn’t fit the requirements of traditional country.
On Wednesday (August 28), The CMA County Music Twitter account tweeted out a few of the award nominees and listed Lil Nas X.

Nas immediately responded with a statement of gratitude.
When Billboard removed the song from its country chart, the board reasoned it didn’t “embrace enough elements of today’s country music” to remain included.”
Since then, “Old Town Road” went on to become the longest-running No. 1 single on the Hot 100.
The 53rd CMA Awards ceremony airs live on November 13.
