"She's On Time!": Lauryn Hill Was Just "20 Minutes Late" To Her Most Recent 'Miseducation' Concert

London got a rather punctual performance from Lauryn Hill recently.

Throughout the year Lauryn Hill's tour honoring her seminal debut solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill has divided fans, primarily because of her tendency to be late to her own concerts. But that changed somewhat on December 3 when Hill took the stage at London's 02 Arena just 20 minutes late.

"'She's on time!' A ripple of excitement has just gone through the O2 Arena," Roisin O'Connor, a music correspondent for the Independent, begins in her review of the show. "The lights have dimmed, and Lauryn Hill is as about as 'on time' as she'll ever be – just 20 minutes late."

From there, O'Connor writes favorably of Hill's show: "...the former Fugees member's free-jazz approach to the live set is often scattershot, but it makes the set feel loose and relaxed rather than messy. And whenever the song structures feel as though they’re about to unravel, things are quickly tightened back up by her band and superb trio of backing singers."

Back in August, Hill addressed critics in regards to her arriving late to her own shows in an essay.

"Me being late to shows isn't because I don't respect my fans or their time, but the contrary, it can be argued that I care too much, and insist on things being right," she wrote. "I like to switch my show up regularly, change arrangements, add new songs, etc. This often leads to long sound checks, which leads to doors opening late, which leads to the show getting a late start. This element of perfectionism is about wanting the audience to experience the very best and most authentic musical experience they can from what I do."
