Kehlani Is Back With Another Romantic Breakup Song “Toxic”

The track digs into how she’s coping with her recent breakup.

Kehlani unveils her latest single “Toxic” after dropping “Valentine’s Day (Shameful)” her last song. The track provides another look at her recent relationship with YG which ended publicly nearly a month ago.

“Toxic” is a relatable listen that provides a bit of background on the issues the couple was experiencing. Throughout the song, Kehlani divulges her thoughts on why their relationship was toxic. She also digs deep and shares that despite the situation not being good for her, she kept going back for more.

She begins the song by sharing, “Damn right we take times being wrong / I get real accountable when I’m alone / I get real about it when I’m alone.” As the song continues she goes on to allude to alcohol mainly Don Julio being a constant reminder of what clouded her judgment. “That damn Don Julio made me a fool for you.” Additionally, although Ty Dolla $ign isn’t credited on the track, it’s evident that he provided background vocals on the track.

The new single points out how scarring the breakup has been for the R&B singer. In case you forgot, YG surprised her with a huge assortment of gifts on Valentine’s Day: roses, bears, and more. The joy from this gesture was short-lived since the couple called it quits after Kehlani ended things. The song “Valentine’s Day (Shameful)” shed light on the conflict that led to their separation.

Despite the hardship she’s recently faced, fans will be patiently waiting for the L.A.-bred singer to unveil a full-length album or EP. Hopefully, that’s in the cards for her before the summer officially sets in.
