In late April Kanye West posted a photo of himself wearing Donald Trump‘s “Make America Great Again” hat alongside music industry executive Lyor Cohen and Universal Music Group CEO Lucian Grange. Now, Cohen has spoken out on the photo as well as West’s support of Trump.

“We were [in Calabasas] because Kanye wanted to play us some music. I was on the way to the restroom and there was Lucian and Kanye was coming out, and he said, ‘Oh wow, we’re all together. Let’s take a photo,'” Cohen recounted to Pitchfork. “I thought he was going to take a photo and send it to Lucian and myself. I had no idea that he was going to put that on social media.”

As for the recent controversy West has created following his declaration that he loves Trump, Cohen said:

“I don’t love his politics but I was really impressed with the music. I think he’s doing himself a disservice by not leading with the music.”

West has addressed his support of Trump in a new song titled “Ye vs. the People.” In a video where he’s discussing politics with fellow rapper T.I., the Chicago rapper said that wearing Trump’s MAGA hat is “like a fight for equality.”
