Kanye Samples His Mom Quoting KRS-One's "Sound Of Da Police" In New Song "Donda"

Kanye released the tribute in honor of his mother's birthday on July 12.

On Sunday (July 12), Kanye West released a surprise tribute to his late mother, Donda West.

Titled "Donda," most of the track samples West quoting KRS-One's "Sound of da Police" before giving way to a verse from Kanye.

“The Devil is using you / Confusing you / Our job is to understand who is who / Righteous indignation / In this nation / We gon start a revolution in this basement," he raps toward the end of the song.

"Donda" serves as the follow-up to "Wash Us in the Blood," his song with Travis Scott. Kanye recently announced that he's running for president, and described what his vision as president would be in an interview with Forbes. At one point in the interview, he said he would want his White House to be like Wakanda, saying:

Let’s get back to Wakanda… like in the movie in Wakanda when the king went to visit that lead scientist to have the shoes wrap around her shoes. Just the amount of innovation that can happen, the amount of innovation in medicine—like big pharma—we are going to work, innovate, together. This is not going to be some Nipsey Hussle being murdered, they’re doing a documentary, we have so many soldiers that die for our freedom, our freedom of information, that there is a cure for AIDS out there, there is going to be a mix of big pharma and holistic.

The artist also denied that his run for president is a publicity stunt, although it has been reported that he hasn't actually filed any paperwork for his presidential run.
