Justine Skye Opens Up About Surviving an Abusive Relationship

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Singer Justine Skye opened up about her past struggles in dealing with an abusive relationship.

The 23-year-old Roc Nation signee released a statement on Tuesday while sharing a clip of her new music video “Build,” on Instagram.

The video for the single featuring singer Arin Ray, shows Skye enduring physical abuse from a partner.

In a candid post, she wrote, “Recently I’ve had one of the scariest/heart breaking experiences in my life and it’s still hard for me to talk about.
I felt stupid, angry, depressed.. blamed myself. Trying to figure out how someone who claimed they loved me so much could find such evil within themselves to hurt me mentally and physically.”

She continued, “I had to find the strength within myself and I’m hoping that through this video I can motivate whoever else is going through this or worse, to do the same.”

In another post, Skye shared photos from the video shoot, writing, “I just want to thank all of the women who took part in the video, on screen and behind the scene. I want to thank all of the women that reached out that I know personally and those through DM to share their stories with me.”
