Juelz Santana will be prosecuted by federal authorities on gun and drug charges after fleeing from Newark Liberty International Airport earlier this month when TSA agents reportedly found a .38-caliber handgun and unprescribed oxycodone pills in his carry-on bag.
According to Associated Press, the 36-year-old rapper faced both state and federal charges with the case, but Essex County prosecutors dismissed the state charges this week, defering to federal authorities.
A plea in the federal proceedings hasn’t been made.
Last week, U.S. Magistrate Judge James B. Clark III denied Juelz Santana’s bail request.
